Trump Invites Relatives of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

White House Offer

The president stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”

Public Response

Community members assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to assist people.”

Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy caused the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on television.

Attorney general Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
