The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.

The 27-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of Consistency

Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.

She garnered nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".

Other WTA Award Winners

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
