This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
