The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
