The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
