The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”

“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Pressed on which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.

“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea of it representing a slump.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother recently.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. Not a single person might employ it to justify results yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
