Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
