Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the process of appointing a new head coach.
O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
