It: Welcome to Derry Releases Second Sooner Than Planned on HBO's Digital Service
Excitement is building for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, that's been receiving positive feedback and incorporating themes from additional King stories. Following the premiere, the broadcaster declared that the second installment will debut sooner than expected, timed perfectly for October 31st.
Early Release Information
Kicking off on Halloween night at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the second episode of Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, before its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will premiere on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, leading up to the concluding chapter on December 14th.
Show Background
Based in Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry is inspired by the classic book while building upon the universe realized by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. The first It movie centered on young characters battling supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that the prequel upholds that legacy. Yet, the first installment of the HBO series shows it intended to escalate the fear, offering heightened horror than the movies and creating a harsh vibe for the upcoming episodes.
Setting and Themes
Set in 1962, the program features a new generation of grown-ups and kids residing in a outwardly charming locale concealing a sinister core. This place functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a terrifying being resurfaces every 27 years. Although the series might seem like it strays too near to the movies initially, what distinguishes the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults concurrently. Younger characters are highly exposed to the monster's horror, but the adults aren’t spared facing their individual fears stemming from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and hidden paranormal elements.
The series premieres on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
