Three members of law enforcement perished and no fewer than 15 additional individuals got wounded in what appears to be intentional detonation from gas at a farmhouse in the northern part of Italy.

Sequence of Events

The blast took place as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the house near Verona to enforce an court-ordered eviction for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.

All three deceased individuals belonged to the Italian military police.

Legal Proceedings

Two individuals got detained at the scene and one more individual who ran away subsequent to the explosion was found soon after. The trio have been admitted to medical facility.

The blast could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and images from the location revealed the building left as a heap of debris.

“This moment calls for sorrow,” stated Interior Minister the Interior Minister, who noted that previous tries had been made to remove the three family members in the past.

Property Situation

The president of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, explained the farmhouse was subject to an removal notice due to debts accrued by the property owners.

“When we entered the property, we faced an utterly insane act,” provincial police commander Commander Papagno informed news outlets.

“A gas cylinder had been activated, and the detonation directly hit our officers,” he added.

Molotov cocktails were also discovered at the residence, the Interior Minister confirmed.

Injuries and Destruction

Injured individuals by the incident comprised 11 other members of the military police as well as a trio of personnel of national police and a firefighter.

According to the local prosecutor, the building was in a poor condition and had no electricity.

The prosecutor was convinced the explosion had taken place on a level above the doorway and stated to the press it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Just prior to the incident, he revealed officers had “detected a whistling noise, presumably the gas canisters being opened”.

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” local residents told reporters, noting that the three had earlier warned to “cause an explosion” rather than be evicted.

“The incident exacted a ‘dreadful, extremely sad and dramatic price’.”

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto united with other government officials in honoring the three men who had died in the line of duty.
