Accused Harasser Questioned: 'However Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has consistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? Then what? Is that not significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The jury was informed that through emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who collated the data, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I won't give up and I will prove my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a association online with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in last December.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period before the appearance to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court was told message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We must assert ourselves," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which stated: "We are positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to private investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case ongoing.
